The vast majority of estate agents expect property prices to increase this year – but they also believe prices will begin to level off soon.
About eight out of 10 estate agents who are members of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) expect prices to increase by an average of 6pc this year.
This is up on the 4.5pc increase which SCSI agents forecast for the market last summer.
And the society said affordability is becoming a big issue, with the pace of property-price growth now higher than income growth in several regions.
This is especially the case in Dublin’s commuter counties, creating pressures for prospective buyers, SCSI vice-president Gerard O’Toole said.
