Rural homes to gain most as prices rise

According to the SCSI, prices rose by an average of 8.8pc nationwide in 2015. That tells only half the story, however. In Dublin, prices rose by only 4.8pc in 2015. That contrasts sharply with a year earlier, when the SCSI said prices in the capital surged by nearly a fifth.

This year, the SCSI – which carried out its survey with the consultancy Future Analytics – believes the price of a three-bed semi could rise by 4-8pc, depending on where it is located.

John O’Sullivan, SCSI chairman of residential property, said the Central Bank’s lending rules had dampened price growth in Dublin and displaced it to neighbouring counties, which have experienced an uplift over the past 12 months.
